TEHRAN – A total of 128 earthquakes were recorded nationwide in the week from September 13th to 19th, according to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran.
Statistically, there are 105 earthquakes with a size of less than 3. An earthquake of 19 size between 3 and 4. According to the IRNA, four earthquakes occurring in the country, ranging from 4 to 5.
Of the total, two Richter scales were 4.7. This occurred on September 18th and 19th in the County Fars.
Of the states of the country, the 17-year-old Kerman had the highest number of earthquakes, followed by Khorasan Razavi and North Khorasan, both of which had 13 earthquakes.
During the same period, an earthquake struck Tehran. No earthquakes have been recorded in Aadibil, Alboz, Ilam, Chaharmahal Bakhtiari, Zanjan, Kazbin, Kordestan, Kelmansha, Gilan and Hadhann provinces.
According to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 -March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
