Tehran – A total of 134 earthquakes were recorded nationwide from May 10th to 16th, according to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran.
Statistically, there are 122 earthquakes with a size less than 3. An 11 earthquake, between 3 and 4 sizes. According to the IRNA, earthquakes ranging from 4 to 5 sizes in the country were reported.
Of the total tremors, one was four on the Richter scale, which occurred in Cistanbalkestan province on May 15th.
Among the states of the country, 20 carmans had the highest number of earthquakes, followed by South Holasan and Kolasan Razabi 14 earthquakes.
During the same period, three earthquakes struck Tehran. No earthquakes have been recorded in West Azarbaijan, East Azarbaijan, Aldabil, Zanjan, Kazbin, Kordestan, Kolgirue Boilamad and Lorestan provinces.
According to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 – March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
