The Arab leadership meeting at the annual summit in Baghdad said it was about to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Saturday and had pledged to contribute to the reconstruction of the territory once the war ceases.
In March, the emergency Arab League summit in Cairo approved plans to rebuild Gaza without stoking away about 2 million residents.
The latest summit was attended by Arab leaders, including Qatar’s Emil Sheikhamim Bin Hamad Argnai and Egypt’s President Abdelfatta El-Sisi. Egypt was the first Arab country to normalize relations with Israel.
Among the guests were Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He called for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza and the flow of aid to the besieged territory.
He said the UN would refuse to “forced evacuate” Palestinians.
Saturday’s summit comes two months after Israel reached Hamas in January and renewed genocide in the coastal district.
“This genocide has reached a level of ugability that has not been seen in all conflicts throughout history,” Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shea al-Sudani said in a speech calling for the aid to be allowed to flow into Gaza.
Al Sudani added that Iraq will work to establish an Arab Fund to rebuild the region where Baghdad will pay $20 million to Gaza and equal amounts to Lebanon.
