“I congratulate the people of the Brotherhood and the Iraqi government for the successful management of peaceful parliamentary elections,” Abbas Aragushi said in a post on his X account on Friday.
Araghchi added: “This election was an important step forward in strengthening Iraq’s democratic process and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and security.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to further strengthen friendly relations with Iraq in all areas of mutual benefit,” he added in the post.
Iraq held parliamentary elections on Tuesday, the country’s sixth since the U.S.-led invasion that toppled longtime dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s Coalition for Reconstruction and Transformation won 1.3 million votes in the election, about 370,000 votes ahead of its next closest rival.
