TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sent a message of congratulations to Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev on October 25, Kazakhstan’s National Day.
In his message, Araghchi expressed his “heartfelt congratulations” to the government and people of Kazakhstan, calling it a “friendly and fraternal country.” He expressed hope that the close ties and cooperation between the two countries will continue to expand in all fields.
Iran and Kazakhstan have long maintained strong ties, particularly in the areas of energy, transportation and trade. Iran’s strategic location gives Kazakhstan access to major trade routes, including southern ports and the International North-South Transport Corridor, and Kazakhstan also serves as a gateway to Central Asia.
The two countries are also linked through the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The bloc is comprised of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, with Iran, Uzbekistan and Cuba holding observer status. In December 2023, Iran and the EAEU signed a free trade agreement, which entered into force in May 2025 after ratification by all member states. The agreement eliminated tariffs on approximately 87% of traded goods, and the value of Iran’s exports to EAEU member states increased by 20% in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 19) to more than $2 billion.
