TEHRAN – Mohammad Hossein Omid, Prime Minister of Tehran University, and Iran’s Armenian Ambassador Grigor Hakobian, have investigated the possibility of expanding scientific cooperation on key environmental issues.
Authorities held a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, the IRNA reported.
Hakobyan noted that the University of Tehran is a renowned university in the region and in the world, referring to the unique relationship between the two countries. Officials announced Armenia’s preparations to promote scientific cooperation with the University of Tehran by holding joint meetings, exchanging professors and students, and conducting research on topics such as the environment and water.
The official proposed to start an Armenian Language Literature major at Tehran University, saying that the Armenian National Academy of Sciences and most of the Armenian universities are offering Iranian research programs to their students.
Omid emphasized that he highlighted joint efforts on key issues such as climate change, air pollution, the environment and water. These already have an impact on Iran and will soon affect other countries, including Armenia. The formal proposal has carried out a joint research project on these common challenges and developed the best solution.
Rankings of Tehran University
The 22nd edition of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) in 2026, unchanged from the 2025 rankings, placing nine Iranian universities among the world’s top institutes.
Tehran University, with a global ranking of 322, is the first Iranian university ranked.
Round University Ranking (RUR) 2025 has placed 36 Iranian universities among the top universities in the world from 32 universities in 2024.
Tehran University, which has a global ranking of 202, ranked third in the country.
Based on the Research Ranking Index, the University of Tehran (Global Rankings 138) is the first to be placed in the country.
The Times Asian University Rankings 2025 has placed 85 Iranian universities at the top institutions in Asia compared to 75 universities in 2024. The University of Tehran ranked 97 worldwide.
The 15th edition of the 2025 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings includes 17 Iranian universities in 21 subject entries compared to 17 Iranian universities in 2024. There are 280 global rankings for Telena University Technology subjects.
Times Higher Education (The) World University Rankings (WUR) ranks 85 Iranian universities among the world’s top universities, according to International Outlook 2025. Tehran University is third in the global rankings of 401-500.
World University Rankings 2025 placed 81 Iranian universities among the top universities in the world in 10 of 11 subject regions compared to 73 universities in 2024.
The best rankings in Iran are computer science and engineering. Tehran University (20-250) ranked second.
