Tehran – Asgal Farhadi, a globally acclaimed Iranian director, has begun filming his 10th feature film, Parallel Tales, in Paris, France.
“Parallel Tales” marks Farhadi’s second French film, following the “past” with Tahallahim and Berenis Bellijo, who won the Best Actress Award for performance at Cannes in 2013.
Now, the two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker has returned to Paris for his latest film since “A Hero,” which won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2021, Mehr reported.
The star cast includes Isabel Happart, Vincent Cassel, Virgy Ephila, Pierre Neeney, Adam Bessa and Catherine DeNeube.
The story was written by Farhadi, but for the time being it is placed under the rap. Although details of the plot have not been announced yet, we can expect another dramatic loose drama from the director.
The film’s French release in Spring 2026 is hosting the film, and is ready for its Cannes Film Festival debut next year.
The film, a co-production of the French Italian Belgian, is produced by longtime collaborator Alexandre Mallett Guy along with Farhady and David Levine. The Prestige Project will be launched by Charade and UTA Independent Film Group in the upcoming Cannes Film Market. Charades handles international sales, while UTA Independent Film Group is responsible for US rights. Memento handles the distribution in France and will be released in spring 2026.
This is the fifth collaboration between Farhadi and Memento production after “Past,” Oscar-winning “Salesman,” “Everybody Knows,” and “A Hero.”
One of Iran’s most well-known film voices, Farhadi (53), is known for his films that stimulate his thinking as he explores social issues. He received his bachelor’s degree in dramatic arts from the University of Tehran in 1988, and later earned his master’s degree in theater orientation.
Farhadi won the best foreign film Oscar in 2012 for “A Separation” (also nominated for Best Spreay), and again in 2017, “Salesman” won.
He was selected four times in the Cannes competition: “Past”, “Salesman”, “Everybody Knows” and “Hero”.
“The Salesman” won Best Screenplay and Best Actor at Cannes in 2016, and “Hero” won the grand prize at the 2021 festival.
“Everyone knows,” Farhadi’s Spanish debut, starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, opened in Cannes in 2018 and competed.
Farhady was also selected twice in Berlin. He was awarded the best director of Silver Bears in 2009 “About Ellie” and “About Ability” at Golden Bear in 2011.
