Five people were seriously injured after crashing Saturday to midnight to Sunday near Eastern Cape Town in Makoma, about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) south of Johannesburg.
According to the Daily Sun, drivers of both vehicles are among the dead, and investigations will be opened to determine what happened.
The victims included 13 passengers on the minibus. This was reportedly travelling to Cape Town, a journey of about 1,000 kilometers from the town of Qonce.
South Africa has a sophisticated and busy road network. It also blames high road deaths, primarily speeding, reckless driving and indifferent vehicles.
According to the latest data from the road traffic management company, road accidents claimed more than 11,800 people living in 2023, with pedestrians making up about 45% of the victims.
