The fire department has recovered a burnt group of six workers in an industrial area about 50km (31 miles) from the state’s capital Hyderabad (31 miles), state fire department chief GV Narayana Rao told the Associated Press.
Two other workers were declared to have succumbed to burns and died in hospital, Rao added that devastating drug troops in Shigachi Industry’s intestines have been removed.
“It was an explosion in a factory spray dryer unit. This is used to process the raw materials into fine powders to make the drug,” Rao said.
India is part of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies and plays a pivotal role in the global supply of generic drugs and vaccines. The country’s robust manufacturing and cost-effective production have become a hub for pharmaceutical companies.
Industrial accidents involving chemical reactors in particular are not uncommon in such factories, and highlight the need for authorities to implement strict safety protocols and regulatory oversight in sectors that are critical to public health.
Sigachi Industries Limited is an Indian company that deals in active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates and vitamin mineral blends, according to its website. There are five manufacturing facilities throughout India and also have subsidiaries in the United Arab Emirates.
