Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Australia recognized Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September, following similar moves by the UK and Canadian Prime Ministers, according to the BBC.
“The two states’ solution is humanity’s best hope to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and end the conflict, suffering and starvation in Gaza,” Albanese said Monday.
Israel says it recognizes it will “reward terrorism” in the Palestinian state as pressure is growing to end the war in Gaza.
Several other people have died since Saturday as a result of Gaza’s starvation and malnutrition, bringing the total to nearly 220 deaths, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
The ministry also said that more than 61,000 people in Gaza have been killed since October 2023 as a result of Israeli military elections.
