The former political candidate for Australian Greens says he could lose his eyesight permanently in his right eye after “interactions with the police” in the peaceful pro-Palestinian protests in Sydney last week.
Hannah Thomas, who faced voters and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in the recent federal election, recorded a video from the hospital before undergoing surgery, saying that he would “demonize protesters, especially Palestinian protesters.”
“They encouraged the police to crack down on them with extreme violence and atrocities,” Thomas said.
Thomas added that what she went through was “nothing revealed compared to what the people of Gaza are experiencing for Israel.”
In another statement, Greens State Representative Sue Higginson called for an independent investigation into the case.
Protesters accused the labor government of allowing Israeli weapons parts to be made in Australia.
Thomas was protesting outside the SEC plating, but the protesters claim they were creating components for F-35 fighters and other weapons. According to the Australian Broadcasting Company, Sec Plating has denied the allegations.
