“The law of retaliation was implemented this morning against attackers at the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran,” the judiciary said on Wednesday.
In January 2023, the man shot one person dead and injured two others after entering the Azerbaijan embassy in Iran’s capital, the report reported.
After the attack, Azerbaijan’s relations with Iran became tense as Baku closed the embassy and evacuated more evacuated staff than what was called “terrorist acts.”
The first Iranian investigation found that the attack was motivated by “personal and family-related issues.”
In mid-2024, Azerbaijan reopened its embassy after the court sentenced the perpetrator to death.
President Masuud Pezeschkian visited Baku later last month as the two countries strengthened bilateral relations.
The two countries also held joint military training in November and earlier this month.
