A high-level Iraqi government delegation led by Iraqi National Security Adviser Qassim al-Araj met with Major General Abdulrahim Mousavi, Iran’s chief of staff, at the General Staff in Tehran.
At the beginning of the meeting, Major General Mousavi emphasized the deep brotherhood between the Iranian and Iraqi peoples, saying that one of the main concerns of Americans is precisely this bond of fraternity and unity, and that even our enemies are well aware of its positive effects and blessings.
He also referred to the US occupation of Iraq, adding that had it not been for the recent invasion of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Zionist regime and the US, America’s true intentions to seek control of the situation in Iraq may not have been completely clear.
The Chief of Staff stressed the need to fully implement the security agreements between the two neighboring countries.
Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qassim Al-Araj emphasized the deep and special bond between Iran and the Iraqi people, saying that no one can undermine this strong bond.
Referring to the recent 12-day war between Iran and Israel, Al-Araj said that although several Iranian military commanders, scientists and innocent civilians were martyred, the Iranian people stood united with the military, government and leadership of the Islamic Republic, contrary to the enemy’s expectations. He added that this unity shows the greatness and resilience of the Iranian nation.
Mr. Al-Araj reaffirmed his country’s commitment to fully implement the terms of the security agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Foreign Minister Al-Araji stressed the need to strengthen military, political and economic cooperation to enhance regional stability, and stressed that both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government recognize the importance of Iran’s security.
He stressed that no country will be allowed to use Iraqi territory to undermine the security of neighboring countries, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The meeting was also attended by the interior minister of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, who reiterated the region’s determination to implement the agreement, which includes the disarmament of anti-Iranian armed groups in northern Iraq. He added that the territory of the Kurdistan Region will not be a base for actions against Iran.
It is noteworthy that al-Araj also held talks the day before with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, Secretary of the Supreme Council of National Security Ali Larijani, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Revolutionary Guards Major General Mohammad Pakpour, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
