Tehran – Veteran Iranian diplomat Ali Bagheri Kani has been appointed Deputy Director of International Affairs of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). The pick was created by Ali Larijani, the new head of the SNSC, and shows Iran doubles its experience in terms of international security.
A few days after taking the job, Bagheli attended a meeting in Tehran between Larijani and Amen Grigorian, who run the Armenian Security Council. Larijani was appointed senior security guard in Iran after a 12-day war with Israel.
Like Larijani, Bagheri is not used to high pressure situations. He served as Iran’s representative foreign minister for several months after Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdrahian lost his life in a helicopter crash last year.
Amir Abdlahian chose Bagheri as his deputy minister of politics and foreign affairs. During his tenure as Deputy Minister, Bagheri led the Iranian team in negotiations aimed at reviving the JCPOA.
Diplomats also have legal experience. He previously served as head of Iran’s judiciary and the Human Rights Headquarters. Prior to being appointed to the SNSC, he was the secretary of the Strategic Council for Diplomatic Relations, an advisory body that works closely with the president and leaders.
