The incident occurred in the northern Uttara region of Dhaka, the military’s public relations department said in a statement.
More than 50 people, including children and adults, have been hospitalized with burns, a doctor at the National Institute of Burn Surgery told reporters.
The death toll has not been confirmed yet, according to a military spokesman.
Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh’s interim government, said “necessary measures” would be taken to investigate the cause of the accident and “ensure assistance of all kinds.”
“The losses suffered by the Air Force… students, parents, teachers, staff and others in this accident are irreparable,” he said.
Video of the aftermath of the Crush showed a huge fire near the grass, which emits smoke in the sky, as the crowd watched from afar.
Local newspaper Prothom Alo said the initial report showed that the plane had hit the roof of a university cafeteria. Reuters could not independently verify this information.
The incident marked the world’s worst aviation disaster in just over a month after an Indian plane crashed onto a medical college hostel in nearby Ahmedabad, India, killing 241 of the 242 people on board, and 19 people on the ground, marking the world’s worst aviation disaster in a decade.
