TEHRAN – As Iran and the US prepare to hear each other’s complaints during indirect negotiations via Oman on Saturday, President Masuud Pezeshkian has gathered to celebrate Iran’s nuclear achievements, but has spoken to many officials gathered to celebrate his lack of intention to develop nuclear weapons but not trust impressive progress on the ground.
“We are seeking peace and security, and we are open to dialogue, but based on dignity and pride,” Pezeshkian said on Wednesday at a ceremony documenting Iran’s National Nuclear Technology Day. “We will not set back from our performance or compromise, and no one will ever allow us to be innovated or creative,” he added.
The West said, “Iran wants to produce nuclear bombs. Ali Khamenei, more authoritative than the leader of the Islamic Revolution, declared Ali Khamenei, who officially and publicly declared that he was not trying to build a nuclear bomb.
Observers don’t know what to expect from their next talk. This uncertainty is largely attributed to inconsistent statements and positions held by US President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s nuclear program. President Donald Trump has repeatedly insisted on preventing Iran from owning nuclear weapons, but has also called for an executive order and an official message. For example, the directive signed shortly after the order returned to the White House called for changes to Iran’s missile and drone programs and its relationship with resistance groups.
Saturday’s talks may provide an initial assessment of Trump’s willingness to engage in serious diplomacy. Iran has repeatedly stated that its military and regional policies are unnegotiable, and now the US has already scrapped one nuclear deal – the JCPOA, which unilaterally retreated in 2018, can make much more compromises with the current nuclear program.
Iran’s nuclear program has made unprecedented progress since 2020. This is when the European signatories of the JCPOA began to substantially coincide with Washington’s policies regarding the transaction.
Trump said if a new nuclear deal is not established, hell will be bombed from Iran. “We do not seek war, but with the knowledge and power created by our dears, we will stand strong in the face of every attack,” the president said.
Also, on Wednesday, the US struck Iran with new sanctions. The Treasury has announced new sanctions against five entities and one person in order to “support Iran’s nuclear program.”
