According to Lebanese Al Mayadeen, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Saturday rejected a circular report suggesting an imminent nuclear talks with the United States.
His remarks came to the US news website Axios, citing two unidentified sources, and reported that White House Middle East envoy Steve Witkov is planning to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut in Oslo next week.
Neither Tehran nor Washington confirmed the Axios report. This said the final day of discussions has not yet been set.
Baghaei emphasized that “public opinion is so upset right now that no one dares to even talk about negotiations or diplomacy.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi previously made clear that Tehran will not return to nuclear talks with Washington unless the US ends its military threat, and framing it as an important prerequisite for a revival of diplomatic engagement.
In an interview with CBS, Araghchi said, “We need to first ensure that Washington does not misuse consultations for a military attack again to decide whether to resume consultations.” Despite his firm attitude, he emphasized Iran’s openness to diplomacy, adding that “the door to diplomacy will never be closed.”
Tehran and Washington were scheduled to hold a five-round nuclear conference starting April 12th, with the sixth meeting just two days before “Israel” launched a surprising attack on Iran on June 13th.
The Israeli attack targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities and civilian infrastructure, bringing not only hundreds of civilians but also several senior military officials and nuclear scientists martial arts.
Iranian judiciary said the Israeli war on the country killed more than 900 people.
On June 22, the US “Israel’s biggest allies” carried out an unprecedented strike at Iranian nuclear sites in Fordaw, Isfahan and Natanz.
The “Israel” attacks have led to a series of retaliatory drone and missile strikes from Iran, which Israeli authorities say have killed 28 people.
On June 24th, a ceasefire was reached between Iran and “Israel.”
