Beijing – Journalists involved in a media initiative hosted by the China International Press Communications Centre (CIPCC) were given the unique opportunity to visit Matsuda district in southeastern Beijing.
As a representative of the Tehran Times, I joined other journalists on tours of the district and the Beijing City Management Centre (BMC).
The Media Corps learned about the achievements of the “Two Zones” initiative at the “Two Zones” exhibition and reception hall, and held interactions and exchanges with BMC staff and related departments in the Tongzhou district.
Later, boat excursions along the Grand Canal provided the opportunity to explore the local historical background and experience the charm of local culture. A tour of Grand Carle Forest Park was then held. The vast forest is located by the river, accompanied by numerous plants, creating a picturesque environment.
Beijing Library was our next destination. It became China’s first public library to receive the International Library Association and Institutions (IFLA) Public Library Award.
The journalists also participated in a promotional event at BMC, providing updates on the progress made in line with the regional modernization plan by Tongzhou district officials.
Another aspect of the journalist visit included touring several Chinese companies in the technology sector, where the latest advancements in the Chinese technology industry were explained.
In recent years, the Tongzhou district has consistently followed the guiding principles outlined in the BMC’s detailed regulatory plan. By embracing the latest concepts, adhering to the highest standards and ensuring excellent quality, BMC’s planning and construction has made steady progress. BMCs are beginning to play their role in mitigating population and non-capitalized central urban areas. The focus of its development shifted from “laying foundations, addressing shortcomings, and systematic expansion of urban frameworks” to “long-term planning, enhanced functionality, comprehensive upgrades.”
GDP in Tongzhou district grew by nearly 6% in 2024. Districts can play an important role in helping the government achieve its economic goals in 2025.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang set a target of around 5% for 2025 amid a fallout caused by escalating US tariffs on East Asian countries’ exports.
China’s economy rose 5% last year, driven by stimulus packages, strong exports and high-tech investments.
President Donald Trump has imposed additional tariffs on Chinese imports since returning to the White House on January 20th. China retaliated by hitting tariffs on US agricultural products.
The China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA) coordinates the CIPCC’s six-annual media exchange program. The initiative aims to establish a platform for media representatives from diverse countries, particularly developing countries, to gain direct insight into China and to assess its developmental progress.
