Tehran – The historic location of Charles et Belcays, an ancient fortress in North Korasan province, has been cleaned up for future holidays. This initiative was implemented by Belqeys Cultural and Sports Club to enhance the site’s appeal to visitors.
According to Hossein Rahmani, director of the Belqeys Heritage site, the impressive muddy work and Adobe structure ranges to about 51,000 square meters. Protected by 29 towers of various sizes, the site currently attracts both national and international tourists eager to explore its historical significance.
Shahr-e Belqeys is considered a remnant of the ancient city of Esfareyen, dating back to the early Islamic century. It continued to inhabit the Safavids from the late period until the early days of Kajal, encapsulating over 1,000 years of history within their walls.
Archaeological excavations and research play an important role in highlighting the cultural significance of the site, and in 2009 he founded the Bellkies Heritage Base.
Rahmani highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in the preservation of historical sites, noting that community involvement, including environmental and heritage conservation groups, contributes to maintaining the integrity of the site and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for tourists.
He further stated that the main objectives of such an initiative are to promote clean environments, promote waste collection and protect valuable historical heritage.
