Speaker Nabi Beli told Ashaq al-Ausat in a recent interview that the Israeli regime has called for consultations that will lead to normalisation of relations, but “we are not considering this option.”
He emphasized that Lebanon is complying with agreements backed by international and Arab support and is protected by the United Nations, adding that “Israel is trying to block its implementation and avoid it.”
Beli noted that Lebanese forces are ready to complete their deployment south of the Ritani River, but Israel’s refusal to withdraw from several occupied territories prevented this from happening with the support of Lebanon’s UN interim forces (Unifil).
He also said Hezbollah has remained in the agreement, withdrawn from the south of Ritani and has not fired a shot in six months despite repeated Israeli violations, including attacks on the southern Lebanese town, the Bekaa region and the Lebanese-Syrian border.
Beli emphasized that Hezbollah has refrained from responding to Israel’s ceasefire violations and is wielding restraints and standing behind the Lebanese state implementing the contract.
The agreement, pledged to be overseen by the United States, stipulates the withdrawal of Israel, the deployment of Lebanese forces, and the release of Lebanese detainees held by the Israeli regime.
