Speaking at the AI Action Summit, Brazilian Foreign Minister Maurovieira highlighted the urgency to address the impact of AI on democracy, sovereignty and global governance.
The discussion focused on using AI to increase information integrity during Brazil’s 2024 G20 presidency, TV BRICS reported.
Brazil has also launched an initiative on information integrity and climate change in collaboration with the United Nations and UNESCO. These efforts will continue at BELEM’s COP30, where the intersection of AI, sustainability and digital governance is a key focus.
Looking forward to being chairman of BRICS in 2025, Brazil is defending its global Southern representative in AI policymaking. Vieira emphasized that sustainable solutions should include developing countries to prevent deepening of digital division. He also highlighted the need for AI regulations that prioritize democratic values and social well-being.
