The National Federation of Petroleum Workers and the Single Federation of Petroleum Workers sent a joint letter to Brazilian government President Luis Inacio da Silva and key ministers on Wednesday, urging them to take more concrete action against the Israeli “genocide” in Gaza.
In February, President Lula was attending the African Union Summit in Ethiopia when he accused Israel of committing “genocide” against the Palestinians of Gaza, comparing the war with the abolition of Nazi German Jews.
The letter highlighted that in 2024 alone, 2.7m barrels of crude oil was exported from Brazil to Israel, representing a significant portion of Israel’s military fuel supply, and that Brazil was globally responsible for avoiding accomplices for war crimes, as clarified by legal experts and international judicial organisations.
