Almost 380 British and Ireland writers have signed an open letter calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, labeling Israel’s actions as “genocide.”
Signed by well-known writers such as Zadie Smith, Ian McEwan and Jeanette Winterson, the letter was called “join us to end collective silence and inaction in the face of fear.”
The letter also called for the immediate distribution of food and medical aid in Gaza, as well as sanctions against Israel.
“This genocide has something to do with us all,” he concluded. “We witness the crimes of genocide and refuse to approve them by silence.”
The letter named them a similar letter denounced Israeli actions the day after 300 French writers, including Nobel Prize-winning winners Jean-Marie Gustave-le-Crezio and Annie Herneau.
On Monday, more than 800 UK-based legal experts, including a former senior judge, wrote to British Prime Minister Stage, urging sanctions against Israel, warning that “urgent and decisive action is needed to avoid the destruction of the Palestinian people.”
