The leaders of the Sahel Alliance members Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have decided to place their defense and security forces on the highest alert, according to a joint statement signed by Mali’s Interim President and Sahel Alliance Council President Assimi Goita.
A statement published by the AES information website said: “The national leadership is closely monitoring the deceptive maneuvers initiated by the French military regime, which simply declares the closure of military bases and replaces them with other, less visible institutions pursuing the same neo-colonial goals.”
“These actions involve operations related to the restructuring and reorganization of terrorist organizations in the Lake Chad basin, the Sahel, and some border areas, including the borders between Niger and Nigeria, Niger and Benin, and Niger and Burkina Faso. These organizations receive various types of support from foreign countries, including financial and equipment, with the aim of destabilizing the Sahel alliance,” the statement said, TASS reported.
In the face of this situation, the National Leadership Council decided to “place the defense and security forces on maximum alert and make the territory of the Union a single theater of military operations coexisting with the current national theater.”
