Beijing – Chinese national president Xi Jinping has concluded his tour of Southeast Asia from three countries by visiting Cambodia.
On Thursday, President Xi Jinping met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
The two leaders agreed to jointly build an all-weather Chinese and Cambodia community in a new era, and announced that 2025 has been designated China and Cambodia’s tourist year.
Xi praised the “ironic friendship” between China and Cambodia, saying it was built on a shared historical heritage, a solid political foundation and strong momentum from within.
He also called on both countries to oppose unilateral practices.
President XI: Iron-like friendship between China and Cambodia is built on shared historical heritage, solid political foundations, and “the powerful momentum within China and Cambodia. The key forces of the global South must maintain the shared values of peace, solidarity and cooperation. Coordination and cooperation within frameworks such as ASEAN and Lancang-Mekong cooperation are jointly protecting the hard-working peace and development in the region and contributing to communities that share the future of humanity,” President XI said.
On his part, the Cambodian Prime Minister said that Cambodia-China relations have been led over the years by a spirit of mutual respect and equality, and has described China as Cambodia’s most trusted and trusted friend.
He added that Cambodia is firmly committed to the policies of the big city and supports China to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Chinese President and Cambodian Prime Minister also witnessed the exchange of over 30 bilateral cooperation documents.
XI also spoke with Cambodia King Norodom Sihamoni and Samdek Techno Hun Sen, president and Senate President of the Cambodia People’s Party.
Hun Sen welcomed China’s “constructive role” in promoting world peace and sustainable development. He noted that trade and tariff wars undermined the legitimate interests of all countries and caused chaos in international circumstances.
Hunsen emphasized that Cambodia is willing to strengthen cooperation with China and work together to tackle various risks and challenges.
Prime Minister Hunmane: Cambodia considers China as the most reliable and reliable friend and is firmly committed to the policy of the I-generation
China has long been Cambodia’s leading foreign investors and trading ally. The China-Cambodian Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect on January 1, 2022, marks Cambodia’s first bilateral trade agreement. In 2024, trade between the two countries reached $15.1 billion, showing growth of 23.8% from the previous year.
President XI embarked on a five-day Southeast Asia tour on Monday by visiting Vietnam and Malaysia.
China is trying to boost relations with its neighbors amid the US trade war. Since returning to the White House in January, President Donald Trump has imposed several tariffs on Chinese imports.
On Tuesday, the White House announced new tariffs that were cleaned up to 245% on Chinese imports, escalating the US-China trade dispute.
In response, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry said Thursday that the US’s horrific tariff hikes in China has become a numbers game.
American analysts and media have shown that tariffs imposed by the US on China will have a negative impact on American consumers by increasing prices.
