Tehran-In a move to strengthen economic ties, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister San Changsol welcomed Iran’s investment in Iran’s infrastructure and development projects during a meeting with Cambodia’s Iranian ambassador.
Iran’s Vietnam ambassador Ali Akbar Nazari met Changtour in his abilities as the first vice-president of the Cambodia Development Hospital (CDC). Nazari conveyed Iran’s preparations to contribute to Cambodia’s development by providing technical and engineering expertise in a wide range of fields, including petrochemists, nanotechnology, aerospace, refinery construction, road construction, industrial development, and more.
He also called for rapid finalization and signing the Bilateral Investment Protection Treaty to provide a clear framework for long-term economic cooperation.
Chanthol responded by highlighting strong legal and government support for Cambodia’s foreign investment. He noted that even before the treaty was signed, Iranian investors welcomed their activities and ordered relevant authorities to facilitate review of the draft agreement.
Iran and Cambodia have maintained diplomatic relations since the 1970s.
In January 2025, the Vietnamese ambassador of Iran, a certified Cambodia, was awarded a high-level conference in Phnom Penh with President of the Cambodian National Assembly, Kuong Sudhary, and Minister of Health, Culture and Art.
In 2024, Cambodia and Iran discussed the promotion and strengthening of mutual cooperation in the field of applied robotic surgical technology, which Cambodian Pasteur Institute and Iranian researchers collaborated to help them improve surgical capabilities and break new positions for global health.
