Police responded to an active shooter incident at a Catholic school in South Minneapolis on Wednesday, with sources confirming that there were multiple casualties and that the shooter is now dead.
Crews on the scene reported seeing a large number of ambulances, according to CBS. Sources told ABC News that there were multiple casualties from a shooting that took place during a morning drop-off at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.
The official Minneapolis X account said as of 10:29am there is “no active threat to the community at this time.”
“The shooter is included. Please leave the area for paramedics to help the victims – W. 54th Street between Lindale and Nicolette Avenue,” the city wrote.
According to Fox 9, the suspect reportedly died. The outlet reported that the initial call to law enforcement passed at 8:27am local time, shortly after a mass for students was scheduled to kick off at 8:15am.
The police department in Minneapolis and adjacent suburbs in Litchfield told Fox 9 there were 20 casualties. It was unclear how many people died.
“A man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle was reported on the scene,” the Litchfield Police Department said.
Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz said on Wednesday morning “we were explained about the shooting at the Announcement Catholic School,” and said “we will continue to provide updates as we get more information.”
“The (Criminal Arrest Bureau) and the state patrol are on the scene. I pray for the children and teachers whose first week of school has been damaged by this horrific act of violence,” he writes to X.
Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey said he was “watching reports of horrific violence in southern Minneapolis,” and “the emergency response team has been revitalized.” Frey was also on the scene at about 10:15am ET.
