TEHRAN – A ceremony to celebrate the National Clean Air Day was held today in the presence of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Minister of Health Mohammad Reza Zafarkandi, and Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Shina Ansari.
National Clean Air Week will be held from January 18th to 22nd with the theme of “A nation’s commitment to clean air with renewable energy.”
“I don’t want to deny the problem of air pollution, but we have to remember that air pollution has not evolved overnight to the point where it can be quickly and easily tackled. It takes national determination,” Ansari said at the event. A logical decision is required.”
Over the past five months, the National Task Force to Reduce Air Pollution has focused its efforts on the cities with the highest air pollution, including Arak, Isfahan, Mashhad, and Ahvaz. Improving fuel quality is on the agenda in collaboration with the oil ministry, IRNA quoted Ansari as saying.
President Pezeshkian also spoke at the ceremony. Emphasizing this week’s theme, he said fundamental changes will be brought about by minimizing the consumption of fossil fuels and replacing them with renewable energy such as solar energy.
In August 2024, Mr. Ansari stressed that adopting appropriate policies and monitoring their implementation are the main responsibilities of the Ministry of Environment in combating air pollution.
“Decommissioning old cars, improving fuel and vehicle quality, developing public transport, providing resources and reducing industrial emissions are among the key elements to combat air pollution.” Ansari emphasized.
The Clean Air Act, enacted in July 2017, was supposed to be the solution to reducing air pollution across the country. Yet, the air is severely polluted because responsible institutions have failed in their legal duty to enforce the law.
Environmental regulations, strict law enforcement, and renewable energy development are essential to curb air pollution.
Improving public health through raising public awareness of the harmful effects of pollution and training how to deal with it, improving waste management systems, sanitation and water treatment, and developing health services in poor areas These are some of the effective countermeasures against atmospheric problems. pollution.
