TEHRAN – The Iranian International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (ICRC) Office, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, celebrated the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Geneva Conventions in a ceremony on Tuesday.

Participants discussed the achievements of the 1949 Geneva Convention, the experiences gained through the implementation of the Convention, and the challenges and future of the Convention.
International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is often seen as the guardian of humanity in times of conflict and is incorporated into the Geneva Conventions.
Adopted through a series of treaties between 1864 and 1949, these four core treaties aim to regulate the conduct of armed conflict and reduce its effects. Over time, three additional protocols were added to further strengthen these treaties. Anyone who violates any of the more than 600 articles designed to protect war victims is considered to have committed a war crime.

“We are also ready to expand our cooperation in family reunification, which is one of our key priorities and which is effective in alleviating the suffering of families affected by the crisis.” “We can play a role,” he added.
Noting that a joint course on the basics of the ICRC and IRCS was held, Mr. Cassard said, “We look forward to similar educational cooperation in the future.”
