In order to address people’s housing problems, renovations of slums, dilapidated housing, old urban housing communities, and urban villages have been carried out across the country in recent years, said Pan Wei, an official at the Ministry of Housing and Urban and Rural Development, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Since 2012, China has built more than 68 million affordable resettlement housing units, enabling more than 170 million people with housing difficulties to realize their dreams of stable housing. According to Pan, more than 300,000 old housing communities have been renovated, benefiting more than 130 million urban residents.
Pan said a multi-layered housing security system is being built for different groups, including families living on subsistence allowances, new urban residents and young people, adding that policy support such as tax incentives, financial loans, land planning and central subsidies are being provided to renovation projects.
