In a telephone conversation Monday, Massachusetts exchanged views with Frederick Mondroni, director of the French Foreign Ministry’s political security, on Iran’s nuclear issue.
“Iran’s right to peacefully utilize nuclear energy should be guaranteed. China is willing to continue to play a positive and constructive role in this regard,” Ma said in a press conference citing China’s Gobal Times report.
He emphasized the importance of solving issues relating to Iran’s nuclear activities through political and diplomatic measures.
The MA urged all parties to resume dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible to prevent escalation of the situation.
Meanwhile, speaking with reporters on Monday, Guo Zi-Kung, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, said Iran’s nuclear issue extends to regional peace and security, as well as the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.
He commented on Monday in response to a question about the announcement by Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei that the European troika from Iran and Britain, France and Germany are scheduled to hold new talks on Tehran’s nuclear issue on Friday.
Baghaei said the meeting will be held at the level of Deputy Minister in front of Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Guo said, “China has always advocated for peaceful resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means. This is the only right way.”
A Chinese spokesperson called for the same direction to work on relevant aspects and to return the issue to the trajectory of political reconciliation.
In a weekly press briefing, Baghey pointed to Iran’s “good talks” with Russia and China over the past year on the snapback mechanism, saying a meeting between representatives of the three countries will be held in Tehran on July 22.
He said, “It was a meeting at the general manager level, focusing on discussions on nuclear issues, including the return of natural sanctions.”
