During a meeting with Russian Deputy Minister Lyabukov Sergei Aleksevic and Foreign Minister Kazem Galibabadi, Iranian Deputy Minister Kazem Galibabadi, during consultations with Beijing Deputy Minister Kazem Galibabadi, for a tripartite meeting on Iran’s nuclear nuclear issue, the King proposed China’s five-point stance on the proper resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue.
All parties should maintain a general, comprehensive, collaborative, sustainable security vision, actively create conditions for dialogue and negotiation reopening, and avoid actions that escalate tensions, he said.
The King said that Iran should continue to adhere to its commitment to not develop nuclear weapons, but that all political parties should fully respect Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, as a signatories to the treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Iran signed a nuclear deal, formally known as a joint comprehensive plan of action in July 2015, and, together with six major states, the UK, China, France, Germany, Russia and the US, accepted restrictions on the nuclear program in return for sanctions relief.
However, the US withdrew its contract in May 2018 and reinstated sanctions.
During the meeting, the King sought a new consensus should be reached based on the framework of the JCPOA, expressing his hope that all parties should move in the same direction and resume dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible.
He noted that the United States should demonstrate political integrity and return to the meeting at the earliest opportunity.
Wang supported promoting cooperation through dialogue, opposed to forced intervention by the UN Security Council, saying that a hasty intervention by the Security Council would not help to build differences in trust and bridge between the parties.
Triggering the snapback mechanism will revoke years of diplomatic efforts and require careful approaches, he added.
China adheres to the principles of gradual and mutual steps and supports its call for consensus through consultation.
He added that only by supporting mutual respect can all parties respond to legitimate concerns and find the broadest common ground for achieving solutions that align with the expectations of the international community.
