Mao Zedong, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry, said on Friday that China is always opposed to illegal, unilateral sanctions and abuse of jurisdiction over its long arm, urging the US to halt the interference and weakening of normal trade and economic cooperation between China and Iran, the Global Times reported.
Mao made his remarks at regular press conferences when asked to comment on the announcement of sanctions on Shandong oil refineries in East China and on Guangdong oil terminals in South China.
In response, Mao also said that China will take all necessary steps to ensure that it firmly protects the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
Earlier on Thursday, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on Chinese citizens, 13 companies and eight entities based on a suspected link to Iran.
“Today, the Ministry of Finance’s Bureau of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designates the ‘teapot’s’ oil refineries and their chief executive officers. The Treasury Department said in a statement Thursday.
