China will impose an additional 34% tariff on all products imported from the US from April 10, the State Council’s Customs Commission announced on Friday.
The announcement follows the US decision to impose “mutual tariffs” on exports to the US to China. This represents the typical act of unilateral bullying following the move the Commission said it was not compliant with international trade rules and seriously undermines China’s legitimate rights and interests.
The US move not only harms the interests of the US itself, but also puts global economic development and stability of its industrial and supply chains, the committee said in a statement.
China urged the United States to immediately lift unilateral tariff measures and resolve trade disputes through consultations based on equality, respect and mutual interest.
The committee noted that existing guaranteed policies and tax reductions and exemption policies remain unchanged, and that new additional tariffs imposed will not be reduced or exempted.
