The Taliban Foreign Ministry has announced that China’s Kabul ambassador Zhao Xing has expanded its invitation to the Islamic Emirates to participate in this year’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The invitation was extended during a meeting with Mohamad Name, Deputy Minister of Finance and Management of the Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement released on Sunday, the ministry stated China’s interest in “expanding bilateral cooperation.”
The statement cited Zhao as Afghanistan’s neighbour, saying that China has “importantly important to strengthen relations” with Afghanistan and is ready to take further steps to build relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Naeem emphasized the importance of neighbor relationships.
“Afghanistan and China are neighbours, and maintaining positive relations between their neighbors is essential for both parties.”
According to the report, Afghanistan membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Agency has been inactive since September 2021. Afghanistan became an observer member of SCO on June 7, 2012, but has not been actively involved in the organization’s activities since joining.
The 25th SCO Summit is scheduled to take place in China later this year.
