Majid Reza Hariri, chairman of the Iranian-China joint chamber of commerce, said on Saturday that up to 50% of Iran’s non-oil trade comes from China.
Hariri said China has purchased more than 92% of Iran’s oil exports without elaborating the details.
“If we add up the numbers, about $65 million to $70 billion worth of oil and non-oil trade (in Iran) is with China,” he was quoted as saying by ISNA News Agency.
The businessman made his remarks a day before Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian’s visit to China.
A recent report in Iranian media suggests that Pezeshkian will oversee the signing of several major economic and energy cooperation agreements with China during his four-day visit to East Asian countries.
In another report on Saturday, Isna said China relied on Iran for 13.6% of its total oil imports in the first half of 2025, importing 1.38 million barrels per day from Iran over that period.
Privately owned refiners will receive the majority of Iranian oil cargo arriving in China as they enjoy a discount of up to 8% per barrel that Iran offers to avoid US sanctions imposed on the country.
