According to a statement released after the meeting, the country’s three trade ministers agreed to “cooperate closely” on a comprehensive and high-level free trade agreement agreement with South Korea to promote “regional and global trade.”
“We need to strengthen the implementation of the RCEP, which is attended by all three countries, and create a framework to expand trade cooperation between the three countries through negotiations between South Korea, China and Japan,” South Korea’s general trade minister Ahn Duk-Geun said he mentioned the region’s comprehensive economic partnership.
The minister met ahead of Trump’s announcement with more tariffs in what he calls “liberation day” when he supports Washington’s trade partnership.
Last week, Trump announced a 25% import duties on cars and auto parts. This could hurt businesses, particularly Asian automakers, one of the largest vehicle exporters to the US.
