BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a grand parade in Moscow’s Red Square on Friday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s World War II victory over Nazi Germany.
President Putin stood by President Xi along with many other leaders, as well as Russian veterans, on a covered platform adjacent to Vladimir Lenin’s spirit us while the Russian troops paraded.
The parade came the day after the two leaders held consultations at the Kremlin. President XI arrived in Russia on Wednesday for a four-day state visit.
The meeting between President XI and his Russian counterparts shows great advances in their strategic partnership between the nations.

He added: “This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Chinese War of Resistance to Japan’s Aggression, the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Chinese leaders once again expressed support to promote multilateralism and denounced unilateral action.

XI and Putin witness the exchange of over 20 bilateral cooperation documents
Putin said on his side they spoke “traditionally warm and friendly” and addressed the Chinese leader as his “dear friend.”
He said that Russia-China relations are based on mutual equality and respect, and are not targeted at third parties and are not affected by the temporary incident.
Xi and Putin also attended a ceremony where they signed and exchanged cooperation documents. They signed a joint statement on further deepening the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era, witnessing the exchange of over 20 bilateral cooperation documents.
The meeting between President Putin and Xi’s neighbors comes at the moment when Western countries over the Ukrainian War tightened Moscow’s sanctions.
President Donald Trump has also launched a trade war with China since taking over the office in January. He imposes tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese exports. China fought back on US products with 125% tariffs.
For now, signing more than 20 bilateral cooperation agreements has further strengthened cooperation across different sectors, paving the way for strengthening economic, political and cultural relations.
