Terrans – foreign journalists invited to China to participate in a critical media exchange programme are preparing to cover the annual sessions of the National Assembly and National Political Advisory Body, which will be held next week.
The annual parliamentary gathering of China, known as the two sessions, begins on March 4th at the Political Council of the Chinese (CPPCC). This will be carried over by the convening of the National Congress (NPC), a top legislative body of East Asian countries.
The NPC is the highest organ of the state power of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). It deliberates, passes major laws, determines major issues, oversees the work of the Council of State, the Supreme People’s Court, and the Supreme People’s Work Association. Each assembly is elected for a five-year term.
The CPPCC is structured to promote multi-party collaboration and political consultation under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC). He was elected for a five-year term and is made up of over 2,000 members representing the CPC and various other political parties. The body includes individuals from diverse sectors of society. Members are tasked with presenting proposals to consider state issues.
The NPC and the CPPCC National Committee are not useful as China’s Senate and House of Representatives. Moreover, the NPC representative is not a member of the CPPCC National Committee.
Two sessions, called Chinese liang goi, address many subjects covering political, economic, educational and social issues.
Since 2014, China has launched a program aimed at providing extensive coverage of two sessions and providing direct insight into the country.
China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC) holds a media exchange program twice a year under the China Public Diplomatic Association (CPDA).
The CIPCC is taking part in the first half of the 2025 program, which lasts more than four months, with more than 120 journalists from over 100 countries.
Nearly 50 journalists participated in the inauguration ceremony held in Beijing on February 27th.
This year’s Lianghui and CIPCC programs are of great importance in President Donald Trump’s economic war against China.
US imports from China face taxes at least 10% of the border after Trump’s customs order came into effect in early February.
On Thursday, the former real estate magistrate announced that he plans to cast goods from China with a new 10% tariff.
China has already fought back by imposing rebuttals on multiple US imports.
Trump’s tariffs on China will weaken the US economy as it will lead to rising US prices.
China’s advances in all areas, including economic, industrial and technology, revolve around developing domestic capacity.
For now, China’s counter tariffs are a response to the obvious US-initiated trade war.
The presence of international media corps in China in the wake of the CIPCC program can enhance the country’s ability to effectively respond to Trump’s psychological tactics.
Trump’s trade war against China stands out for its roots in his myopia. Continuingly trying to undermine China, Trump cuts his nose to stare into his face!
