General Aziz Nasirzadeh arrived in Qingdao, China early on Wednesday.
The two-day high-level summit (Wednesday and Thursday) will be chaired by China’s Minister of Defense Dong Jun, bringing together top defense personnel from across the region.
According to a statement from China’s Ministry of Defense, Minister Don held meetings with counterparts and summit bystanders from SCO member states, including Nasirzede of Iran, Victor Krenin of Belarus, Kawaja Asif of Pakistan, Ruslan Mkambetov of Kyrgyzstan, and Andrei Bellous of Russia.
The SCO Summit will serve as an important platform for addressing regional security, counter-terrorism cooperation, and broader military cooperation between member states.
Nasirzadeh’s visit comes one day after a unilateral ceasefire was declared by Tel Aviv, marking the end of a recent attack on the Islamic Republic.
During his stay in China, Iran’s defense minister is also expected to meet with senior Chinese leaders to discuss bilateral ties and regional development, with strengthening military cooperation between Tehran and Beijing being a high on the agenda.
