HAINAN – When China’s national president Xi Jinping met with world’s top business leaders in Beijing on Friday, he reassured global investors about the economic outlook of Asia’s country.
“China has been around and certainly is an ideal, safe and promising investment destination for foreign investors,” President Xi Jinshu said at the meeting’s meeting at the address to more than 40 foreign top executives.
He described China as “a fertile ground for foreign companies to invest and thrive.”
Chinese leaders emphasized that their country will improve access to markets, ensure equal treatment of foreign companies, and enhance communication with foreign investors.
President XI’s comments come amid the US trade war with China. Since returning to the White House in January, President Donald Trump has imposed a 20% tariff on all Chinese imports. China retaliated by imposing tariffs on US products.
Xi did not name the US and did not directly mention Trump’s tariffs. However, he provided veiled criticism of his trade policy.
“Some countries are building small gardens with high fences, building tariff barriers, politicizing business issues and using them as tools and weapons. We hope they share wise views and act against boring rules and zero-sum games,” he told business leaders.
The Chinese president added, “Blowing out the light of others will not brighten your own light. Blocking other people’s paths will ultimately prevent you from blocking your own paths.”
Professor Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, said on Wednesday that Trump’s trade war with China was “very self-defeating” for the United States. A prominent American economist commented on the bystanders of the Boer Forum at the Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2025, held in China’s Hainan province on Wednesday.
Mainstream Bangladeshi media has characterized Yunus’ trips to China by Bangladeshi leaders over the past 50 years as “the most important visit.”
President XI also spoke with Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Bangladesh Interim Government in Beijing on Friday.
Emphasizing the longstanding history of friendly exchanges between China and Bangladesh, Xi Jinping said that both parties should deepen mutual political trust and continue to support each other firmly.
Yunus pointed out on his part that China is a trusted partner and friend of Bangladesh.
On Thursday, Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Din Xuexiang also met with Yunus. Ding described China and Bangladesh as good neighbors, good friends and good partners.
Yunus gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the BFA Annual Meeting 2025 held in the town of Boao on Thursday.
Mainstream Bangladeshi media have described Yunus’ visit to China by Bangladeshi leaders over the past 50 years as “the most important visit.”
A provisional government was established in Bangladesh after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country last August after weeks of violent turmoil.
