Beijing has expressed support for new dialogue and new possibilities to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, a Kremlin statement said.
Putin and XI spoke over the phone to “share opinions on issues of direct interest” about bilateral cooperation and the global agenda, describing the exchange as “warm and friendly.”
“Leaders emphasize that Russia and China’s foreign policy tandems serve as factors in stabilizing the world situation. The strategic nature of these systems is not affected by external influences and is therefore not affected by third parties. It poses no threat,” the statement said.
The Chinese explanation on the phone was requested by Moscow, adding that during the speech XI expressed recognition of the fact that “Russia and related parties have made positive efforts to resolve the crisis.”
US President Donald Trump reversed attempts to “segregate” Russia pursued by the previous administration. Currently, Moscow and Washington are working to restore normal diplomatic relations. Officials from both countries said this could lead to the resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
Members of the new US government previously criticised President Joe Biden’s approach, claiming that Moscow was led by his position as a “junior partner” with Beijing, and that he violated the interests of the US.
Conversely, Russia and China describe their relationship as “unlimited partnerships” based on mutual respect and shared views on how the world should be governed. Moscow and Beijing criticize the United States, who allegedly burned chaos around the world to undermine competition.
