“Our army captured two Chinese men who were fighting as part of the Russian army. This happened in the territory of Ukrainians in the Donetsk region. We found ID, bank cards and personal data in possession,” Zelensky was found in a statement.
He said Kiev has information that more Chinese people have been verified by Russian military forces.
“I have instructed the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to immediately contact Beijing and clarify how China is trying to respond to this,” added Zelenskyy.
The president said China’s involvement in the Russian war “is a clear signal that Putin intends to do anything other than end the war.”
“He’s looking for a way to continue the fight, and this definitely requires response, from the United States, Europe and all people in the world who want peace,” Zelensky said.
He said that captured Chinese citizens are under the control of Ukrainian security services and that investigation and operational actions are continuing.
There were no immediate comments from China or Russia.
China is seeking a diplomatic solution to end the three-year Ukrainian war and praises Russia for holding talks with Washington for this purpose.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Putin declared a “no-limit” partnership a few days before the 2022 Ukrainian War.
