TEHRAN – Now fired CIA operative Asif William Rahman, 34, has pleaded guilty to distributing classified documents regarding the Israeli regime’s November 2024 invasion of Iran.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Rahman pleaded guilty to two counts of “intentional retention and transmission of classified information” related to national defense.
His sentencing is scheduled for May 15, and he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison under the terms of his plea agreement.
“Mr. Rahman betrayed the trust of the American people by illegally sharing classified national defense information that he was sworn to protect,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen.
Rahman was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia in November last year.
The U.S. government said he had been a CIA employee since 2016 and was a former top-secret secret agent.
Court documents allege that Rahman accessed and printed two “top secret” documents detailing “planned actions against foreign allies and foreign adversaries of the United States.”
“Lerman deleted the documents, photographed them, and sent them to individuals he knew were not entitled to receive them,” the Justice Department said.
According to reports, Rahman allegedly leaked documents produced by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), which is important for analyzing satellite images and supporting covert operations by the US military.
These leaked documents were revealed on Telegram in October 2024 and showed that the Israeli military was preparing for a retaliatory strike following an October 1 Iranian ballistic missile attack.
The operation, dubbed “True Promise II,” is Iran’s response to the assassinations of key resistance leaders, including Hamas’s Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah’s Saeed Hassan Nasrallah, and is an Iranian response to the assassinations of key resistance leaders, including Hamas’s Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah’s Saeed Hassan Nasrallah. Less than a month later, on October 26, Israeli warplanes violated Iraqi airspace and attempted to target Iranian military facilities.
The attack damaged some Iranian radar sites, which have now been repaired, and killed four army personnel and one civilian.
