Tehran – The play “Rabbit,” written by English playwright Nina Lane, will be performing at Tehran’s City Theater from April 10th.
Mehdi Nasiri directed the cast of Fariba Aminian, Reza Joshani, Saeid Mohebbi, Negin Tyyebi, Parsa Farjadmanesh and Taraneh Kouhestani.
Published in 2006, “Rabbit” is a shocking, loud, and Causat drama that marked the debut of a major voice at the British Theatre.
The 75-minute play takes place in a trendy bar where 29-year-old Bella is celebrating her birthday with a friend. Interacting with jokes about work and men and women is an edgy scene between Bella and her father, with her classically having a difficult relationship.
Raine’s Sparky First Play is about love, memories and trying to regain the period you felt invincible. Above all, this is a play about happiness that is commonplace in our younger days, and as we get older, it often escapes us and makes us envy as grabby.
Furthermore, the play looks at the influence of feminism and postfeminism on women’s self-image. It asks women of the current generation: Are we moving forward with the profits our mothers fought, or are there any backlash?
It’s a play about gender politics in a world where no one is sure how to move forward anymore. Men had all the choices, and now women have made choices, but it doesn’t necessarily make them happy.
Nina Lane, 49, is both a playwright and a theatre director. Having earned a first-class degree in English literature from Oxford, she began her theatrical career as a trainee director at the Royal Court Theatre.
Her first play, “Rabbit,” directed by her, premiered at the Old Red Lion Theatre in 2006, moved to Trafalgar Studios that year, then moved to New York in 2007, winning two awards for the most promising playwright. She has since written four more plays.
“Rabbit” will remain on stage at the City Theater in Daneschju Park, at the intersection of Valier Athul and Engelab Streets, until May 4th.
