Netanyahu told news channel I24 on Tuesday that he felt “very obsessed” with the bigger Israeli vision. He said he considers “the generation of Jews who dreamed of coming here and the generation of Jews who followed us” as “on a historical and spiritual mission.”
Greater Israel is a term used in Israeli politics, referring to Israeli territory expansion, including the West Bank, Gaza, and Golan Heights in Syria, and several interpretations have also been reported, including Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and parts of Jordan.
In a statement, Egypt asked for an explanation of the comments.
The comments “contradict the desires of regional and international political parties to cherish peace and achieve security and peace for all people in the region,” a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
“The only path to peace is to return to negotiations, end the war with Gaza, and lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state.”
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry called Netanyahu’s comments “a dangerous and provocative escalation, a threat to state sovereignty, a violation of international law and a violation of the UN Charter.”
