BEIRUT – Observers noted the unusually optimistic tone expressed by Thomas Barrack, a special envoy to Syria, suggesting that Lebanon could face a massive escalation, especially if Lebanon fails to follow his suggestion to disarm Hezbollah.
When he received the official response from Lebanese, Barrack declared that he was “thank you and satisfied.” So how do you understand this?
Sources noted that these positive tributes do not necessarily mean the end of the threat, as US demands remain unchanged until the outcome of an upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Sources revealed that Barracks, through his soft diplomacy, tried to portray the issue of resistance as a purely local crisis.
Most notably, the US envoy meeting with Lebanese military leader Samir Giagea, who described Lebanese response as “unconstitutional” and called for a discussion of the US proposal within the government.
Geagea urged the barracks to intervene to prevent Lebanese authorities from stagnating Hezbollah’s disarmament. Barack assured him that “this issue concerns you, the Lebanese.”
Barack was candid about not relying on the role of Lebanon’s anti-resistance team, but rather declared his country’s “abhorrence” of fighting their fight on their behalf.
During his first visit to Lebanon, Barracks appeared to be under the illusion that cooperation with Israeli interests would be on the brink of overthrowing Iran’s Islamic Republic and, in turn, bringing the downfall of Hezbollah.
However, after Iran’s victory, and automatically the victory of allies, including Hezbollah, was very well aware that the government of Barracks would not accept Hezbollah’s humiliating surrender.
Therefore, they sought to encourage Riyadh envoy, Yazid bin Fahan, to face the Lebanese government. Nevertheless, Bin Fahan failed.
When he said he could not provide guarantees that Israel would not rely on a new war, Barrack suggested that Israel would deal with Hezbollah in its own way!
Meanwhile, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Delaine and the associated academic delegation met with Syrian self-appointed president (now known as Ahmad al-Sharaa).
Dali confirmed that Lebanon’s WAQF owns approximately 30 million square meters within these farms.
“At this point, we cannot discuss whether these farms are Lebanese or Syrian unless they are freed from Israel. After their release we will discuss the issue.”
Off-topic Al Jolani expressed his dissatisfaction with the continued detention of terrorists in Lebanese prisons, claiming he was “fighting against the previous regime,” noting that his foreign minister would soon be visiting Lebanon to discuss the issue.
At the same time as Derain’s visit, Hebrew Media reported that Damascus was requesting Governor Triborg’s annexation into Syria. So, what kind of war is planned against Lebanon over the next few days?
