TEHRAN – Iran’s Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has approved the general framework of a new bill aimed at strengthening the country’s military in the face of Israeli invasion.
Committee spokesman Ebrahim Rezai announced the decision following the session on Sunday, July 14th. The bill has been revamped with the title “Strengthening the military’s military capabilities in a comprehensive conflict between crime and invasion of the Zionist regime.” The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Defense, military general staff, Iranian military and Islamic Revolutionary Security Force (IRGC).
The bill, drafted by Tehran MP Ali Khezrian and supported by 120 lawmakers, was passed in principle and introduced to the Committee’s Defense Subcommittee for a detailed review. According to Rezaei, the bill includes one major article and three provisions, but further changes may be made during deliberation.
During the session, representatives of the Defense Forces and military expressed their views, and the Deputy Minister of Defense emphasized the need to ensure adequate defense funds. He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening defence resources with the support of the committee.
Rezai, who represents Dashtestan in Parliament, explained that under the proposed legislation, the Planning and Budget Organization and the Ministry of Oil must fully allocate the 2025 Defense Budget (1404 Persian Calendar Year). It also needs to cover the unpaid defense-related budget shortages starting in 2024.
Additionally, the bill is mandatory for plans and budgetary organisations to fund all annual defence allocations approved by the highest national security council. The Iranian Central Bank will also be tasked with providing financial facilities for emergency defense projects using both unblocked and available financial resources.
