TEHRAN – Beijing’s Ambassador to Tehran said that cooperation between Iran and China in cultural heritage research has gained further speed and depth in the past two years, calling this field a strategic platform for expanding scientific and civilizational exchanges between the two countries.
Ambassador Kong Pei-wu said joint research projects in archeology and related cultural heritage research have become a strong foundation for scientific and cultural cooperation between the two countries, IRIB news agency reported on Saturday.
“These capabilities have existed for many years and are now being pursued in a more systematic and profound way,” Kong was quoted as saying.
Referring to China’s recent international efforts, Kong said that cultural and scientific cooperation between Tehran and China has expanded since Chinese President Xi Jinping launched global efforts. He said this trend shows that “the two ancient civilizations of Asia are taking effective steps towards mutual cultural and scientific enrichment.”
The ambassador also noted that he visited Persepolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in April, where he met with a group of Chinese researchers, including members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He explained that the presence of Chinese scientists at such world heritage sites is a sign of continued practical cooperation in archeology between the two countries.
The Chinese envoy said, “Cultural heritage research and mutual understanding between civilizations have made great progress, and we hope that cooperation between Iran and China in this field will not only continue, but also expand in a more structured and comprehensive manner.”
“Cultural heritage can serve as a lasting bridge between two ancient nations that have made significant contributions to world civilization.”
