DARYAN – A group of international journalists launched a five-day tour of Northeast China’s Leahong province on Tuesday, and the trip in the dynamic port city of DARYAN began in a coastal metropolitan city that has become a powerful symbol of China’s high quality development, global engagement and future-looking innovation.
Upon arrival, the delegation visited the Darian International Conference Centre, an impressive architectural landmark and recurring host of the new champions’ annual meeting, also known as Summerda Boss. Since 2013, Darian has welcomed this globally important forum five times, most recently in 2024 and is set to host it again next year.
The event will serve as a global platform for innovation, dialogue and collaboration between emerging economies and advanced businesses. Darian’s repeated choices as a host reflect an increasing influence in shaping global economic conversations and fostering international cooperation.
Strategically located between the Yellow Sea and the Boy Sea, Darian is one of China’s major sub-local cities known for its strategic openness, robust infrastructure and powerful economic foundations. As a hub for advanced manufacturing, international trade and technological innovation, cities play an important role in revitalizing northeast China. But beyond its economic strength, Darian impresses visitors with a seamless blend of contemporary urban design, green spaces and coastal beauty. The delegation was amazed at how the cities maintained their natural charm, while building a vibrant, sustainable urban landscape that reflected the broader goals of China’s ecological civilization.
From tree-lined boulevards and vast parks to cutting-edge high-tech zones and innovation clusters, Darian tells the story of fascinating transformations in which heritage and high-tech coexist in harmony. Its maritime economy, software and service outsourcing industry and environmentally friendly urban planning make cities all positioned as models of sensible and sustainable development in China and beyond.
The Media Tour is part of a broader initiative organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Good Deeds and Friendship Cooperation Committee (GNFCC). The GNFCC has expanded its invitation to journalists with the goal of deepening international understanding and introducing Leaon’s advances in the new era. The initiative reflects the vision outlined by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 2013 SCO Bishkek Summit, and proposed the establishment of an institution dedicated to promoting friendship and mutual understanding between SCO member states and observers.
After time at Daryan, the delegation will travel to the state capital, Shenyan, where he will attend two major SCO forums. These events further highlight the role of Liaoning in regional cooperation, economic integration and cultural exchange under the SCO framework.
As the world faces complex challenges and seeks new paths to recovery and cooperation, cities like Darian have proven that innovation, openness and sustainable development are closely linked. For visiting journalists, Darian offers a glimpse into the future shaped by China’s window into change, as well as the interstate connectivity, shared prosperity and enduring friendship.
